aile (el) : a Japanese singer-songwriter based in Los Angeles. Born in Gifu, she began her career in her early twenties, reaching the finals of a major vocal audition in Japan. In 2002 she debuted with Harlem Recordings and soon signed with BMG Japan, releasing singles and two albums, while also appearing as a fashion model. In 2004 she moved to New York, immersing herself in jazz, gospel, and authentic Black music, then continued her journey in Los Angeles, studying jazz vocals at M.I. and collaborating with local musicians.

After a pause for health and family, aile faced breast cancer in 2021, underwent major treatment, and courageously returned to the stage in 2022 at the Rising Japan Music Fest. Since then, she has performed actively at events bridging Japan and the U.S., while continuing to write new music. In August 2025 she held her first solo concert in ten years, which was warmly received and celebrated as a memorable night. At the Japan Film Festival’s Welcome Ceremony on September 12, she will sing “Inochi wo Kasanete,” a song she helped produce, originally created by Mintgreen 4eva, the mother of Hajime, to whom it is dedicated.
